About Marco Goldsmith's Blue heat

---------------------------------------------

"Now and then a band comes along that seems to have something else. Perhaps a sound that can't be pigeon-holed or labelled, a style that seems to span a range of tasty relatables, or perhaps live performances that leave raving witness accounts. But one thing's for certain, even fewer bands have managed a combination of all these facets."

So starts the promotional flyer for Marco Goldsmith's Blue Heat. It's pretty impressive stuff, but what about their music? Well, I'm happy to say that both the band and the music both live up to the promise of the promotion.

Since playing their debut gig at the 1991 Ballarat Blues Festival, Blue Heat have played at numerous festivals all around the country, financed and recorded two CDs, and won the 1995 'Australian Blues Album of the Year' award. Marco Goldsmith also picked up the 1995 'Australian Blues Artist of the Year' award.

The big, swinging sound of the band, backed by a three-piece horn section and fueled by dueling guitar and keyboards, is fronted by Marco Goldsmith's crooning vocals and strong stage presence. Marco, as primary songwriter for the band, draws upon his own experiences when putting pen to paper, resulting in music of unexpected depth.

In January 1997, the stress of keeping a seven-piece band alive began to show, and the members of Marco Goldsmith's Blue Heat voted to change the name of the band simply to Blue Heat. Unfortunately, this did not appear to help, and the band members soon went separate ways. In May 1997, one of the finest R&B bands in Australia breathed its last at a memorable night supporting B.B. King.
